Santa’s Little Helper

Buckle-up, the holiday season is here! I was raised in a fairly traditional home where our Christmas tree was put up twelve days before Christmas and taken down no later than twelve days after Christmas. Definitely old-school! It has really been surprising for me when I see decorations and signs of the holiday appearing sooner and sooner every year. When does the season really start? In fact, in late September I was walking through Costco and I saw some Christmas trees poking up from behind a wall of athletic socks and comforters. Too early! A couple of weeks ago (mid-October) I...

Doing Your Hair While you Travel

Thanksgiving is almost here! It’s the busiest travel day of the year. We’ve all had that dilemma of what to do with our hair. What do you when your plane’s arrived late and you have to rush to Mom’s because she starts dinner promptly at three? I know people that eat at three; they’re out there! The Epic Battle to Get to a Natural Hair Color

For nearly 25 years, I have had some form of hair color on my hair. I’ve been red, black, and blonde; I’ve had hi-lights, low lights, and color blocking. No highlights, low lights, not even a toner, just my own god-given color. I felt I was in a color slump I figured maybe it was time for a fresh start. I also wanted to see just how much...

Here we are! The last week of me sharing the top questions I get from my clients. I do hope you enjoyed reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them! If you’ve been following along, last week we talked about shampooing versus no-poo. That article really elicited a lot of conversation around the dinner table. My lovely husband told me he didn’t wash his hair for a year when he was a younger man. He’s lucky I wasn’t his stylist back then! Let’s end this series with the most fundamental question I get asked. That is how often...

No-poo versus shampoo

Many of my clients ask how often they should shampoo their hair, some even ask if they should ever wash their hair. Let me go on the record now and to state that I do not think the “no-poo” method of taking care of your hair is a viable or even practical way to manage your hair. The premise behind the no-poo (stifling a giggle here) method, is that it is an eco-friendly, sustainable, and non-toxic way to keep your hair healthy. I just don’t think creating preparations of baking soda, vinegar, and essential oils is practical. It also...
